$100 Novice Horse Class
Everyone who has ever started a horse knows that it takes a while to get one seasoned and consistent. It is hard to "hit" consistently in a divisional race on these started horses. By the end of the year you are usually all over the board with a few points in every division and not much chance for the nicer year-end awards. We are excited to give these horses a chance at some decent year-end awards! Here's how it works:
1. Nominate your horse in the open or the juniors. You will run in either class (open or junior) as you normally would, paying your entry fee and accruing points and winning money in the open or junior class.
2. To be included in the $100 Novice Horse class your horse can not have won more than $100 in barrel racing and you must pay an additional nomination. Nominations are $15 and will have to be purchased before any points will accrue in the Novice Horse Class.
3. When entering a jackpot you will pay an additional $5 (added onto your entry fees for the open or junior class). The $5 is your entry for the Novice Horse Class. There is no payout at the jackpots in the Novice Horse Class but points will accrue for year-end awards. All money paid into the Novice Horse Class (nominations and entries) will go towards year-end awards. We will guarantee a saddle to first place if we have at least 10 horses nominated and an average of 10 at each jackpot.
4. You will only make one run at the jackpot. Your time will apply to your Open or Junior Class and your points will be applied to whatever division you fall and money will also be won if you place in any division. Knocking over a barrel in the Open Class will receive a no time and accrue no points in the Open Class. Knocking over a barrel in the Juniors is a plus 5 seconds and will accrue points in the Junior Class. These are the rules for each of those classes as described in your rulebook. Your same run will also apply to your Novice Horse Class. The Novice Horse class is NOT a divisional race, it is a straight time barrel race. The pattern is set the same for both the juniors and open so these times will be put together for the Novice Class. The fastest novice horse will receive 25 points, second highest 24 and so on. Places 25th and slower will all receive 1 point each. Knocking over a barrel in the Novice Class will be a plus 5 and you will still accrue points. Breaking the pattern will receive no points.
